General Description
Red birch is the heartwood only. The wood is generally straight-grained with a fine uniform texture. Generally characterized by a plain and often curly or wavy pattern. In good lighting can present a cinnamon/gold luster.
Working Properties
The wood works fairly easily, glues well with care, takes stain extremely well, and nails and screws satisfactorily where pre-boring is advised. It dries rather slowly with little degrade, but it has moderately high shrinkage, so is susceptible to movement in performance.
Physical Properties
The wood of red birch is heavy, hard and strong. It has very good bending properties, with good crushing strength and shock resistance.

“Beautiful. We get many compliments. I hope the pictures (we sent) can show others!”
Sorry I missed your calls today – a crazy day in the office. I appreciate you calling to check on the stair treads, as I’ve been meaning to call you. I just put the finishing touches on everything last weekend, and they turned out great. The treads really were the key to the project, and your company did a great job for me. Thanks so much – I will recommend you to any friends doing similar projects, and look forward to a chance to do business together again soon. All the best, MB (DYI-er, Yardley PA)

“I have done both prefinished as well as mill direct floors in the past and found your flooring to be probably the best so far. I found that it was very true and easy to lay and match. The joints were all very tight and gave me good peace of mind as I have radiant heat…very happy with the look and feel of the floor and I have passed the Timberknee name along many times over the last few months..”
